Get Traffic or Fail – It Is This Simple

Written By: Gerry on January 16, 2009 3 Comments

If you are going to run a business online it is critical to get traffic to your website. Without traffic you will find it very difficult to make any good money from your site.

No visitors obviously means no customers. Even if you have a whizz, bang, slick, awesome site, but have no traffic, then it will be very hard to make it work.

Information Overload
Ever had a feeling that there is way to much information? There are so many websites all boasting that they can send you traffic or sell you a product that can tell you how to get traffic.

There are;

- Free Methods
- Paid Methods
- Viral Methods

and the list goes on…..AAAAARRRRGGGG…!!!

Some ideas are useless and are like a “A bicycle that can’t stand on its own because it’s two-tired……”

OK, bad jokes aside, finding the methods that work reasonably well can be difficult. The last thing you want to be doing is spending a lot of time trying to generate traffic and getting none.

Least Amount of Effort
Really, you want the ideas that take the least amount of effort.

So how do you find out which ideas are the easiest?

This is through using a website tracking service. A website tracking service will allow you to monitor your visitors and pinpoint exactly where they are coming from.

No visitors obviously means no customers.

You will be able to discover where they are coming from and then replicate your efforts to the same traffic generation technique you used to create the interest.

Really – a successful online business is about;

Product

And

Traffic.

So How Do You Get Traffic To Your Website?

1. Be careful using traffic generator websites or those websites where you pay to get traffic. The majority of these are not effective. Most of the time you won’t get any and your money will be wasted.

2. Not all traffic is the same. Just like any other customer, you need to target the people that are more likely to buy your product. No point in trying to sell to people who are just not interested. You need relevant targeted traffic.

Put it this way, if you are a person looking to buy a car and you end up at a website selling trucks, are you likely to buy a truck?

The chance of you buying a truck is highly unlikely. Therefore your traffic is irrelevant and you have wasted your time getting that person to your website who simply is not interested in your product.

3. So how do you get relevant targeted traffic?
An easy way is to join forums specifically in your niche. You can join the community and provide comments and feedback to topics on the forum.

If there is a signature allowed in your signature field then you can link through to one of your websites that are in the same niche.

You need to be genuine about this – register and provide feedback to others about topics on the forum. Include your web address details in your signature.

If you show credibility and become a regular part of the forum – people are likely to visit your website and then are more likely to buy your products.

4. Make sure you have your keywords in your domain name. This will attract the search engines and generate traffic naturally. Then optimize your website so that it attracts the search engines.

    You can also use article marketing to get traffic to your blog. I plan of using this strategy in the future.
